No two definitions quite alike
What does play mean to you? A musician will give a different answer than an athlete, just as a lawyer will interpret the question differently than a monk. Somehow, all of their diverse definitions can be true at once.
Play can be a performance factor, a relationship accelerator, a spiritual practice, an explosion, or a whisper. Age is just one of many variables. Regardless of how it’s expressed, playfulness is a component of many of life’s most meaningful and memorable experiences.
Define Play explores playfulness through conversations with fascinating people sharing what play means to them.

Why the dragonfly?
There are plenty of other animals that play more obviously than an insect. Why not a dolphin or puppy in our logo?
Looking for playfulness in unexpected places is fruitful fodder for the conversations we’re having with Define Play. Watch dragonflies swim, hunt, fly, rest, mate, etc. There’s play in all of it, if you’re open to seeing it.
The flying skills and hunting tactics of dragonflies are athletic and unparalleled. Dragonflies stay close to their source of life, the water that birthed them and sustains them. They also have a different sense of time; time “slows down" for dragonflies because their visual processing speed is so high compared to ours. Dragonflies also have a wide spectrum of gorgeous colors, creating a spectacular gallery of artistry.
Are we reaching here? Maybe, but let’s keep playing with the rules. Check out these videos and see for yourself!
